Hello! My name is Annie Mason. Hi, Impact
I am an artist based in Fredericksburg, Virginia. I'm a wife, mom, former art teacher, illustrator, breast cancer survivor - blessed in every way.
Associate in Science in Graphic Arts and Photography (Springfield Technical Community College)
Bachelor of Fine Arts in Education (Westfield State University)
Master of Art History (UMASS - Amherst)
I was an elementary art teacher in both Massachusetts and Maine before pursuing my MA in Art History. I then curated in the photography department at the Yale Center for British Art.
After marrying and relocating to VA, I worked as an Assistant Curator in the Education Department at Kenmore Historic Home in Fredericksburg. Then I became a stay-at-home mom to my only child for many years. In 2015, my daughter gave me a phone case with someone else's printed artwork from Society6 and said "you could do this." And here we are.
My artwork is watercolor, pen, and graphite on paper; any light editing is done digitally. All of my watercolors are painted in vivid, saturated, and harmonious permanent watercolor - including my series of state birds and flowers. Watercolor is the medium of choice for me because I love its translucent and luminous quality. My themes are mostly free-standing objects from nature: birds, plants, animals, and flowers, with emphasis on pattern and texture.
Recently, I started working with pen & ink and highlights of color using crayons. It has been well received in my market and I continue to explore the possibilities.
Please browse my various shops, and I hope you find the same connection to nature, flowers, insects, and birds.
